DPF restoration in Riga and SiC core replacement to pass CSDD

The only honest way to pass the CSDD particle test with certainty: a new European silicon carbide (SiC) cartridge welded in, plus the original factory ECU software restored (Stock Restore).

The physics: why washing will not pass CSDD and why an engine pre-check is needed
DPF comparison: destroyed, coked cordierite on the left, a new SiC cartridge on the right DPF comparison: destroyed, coked cordierite on the left, a new SiC cartridge on the right
A cross-section of the particulate filter: on the left burnt-out, collapsed cordierite that no chemistry can clean; on the right a new silicon carbide (SiC) matrix with 100% intact cell geometry.
Why washing with water and chemicals (80–120 €) is self-deception

Factory cordierite melts at just 1 200°C. By 150 000+ km the cells have micro-cracks, melted patches and burnt-off platinum coating. Washing with 100+ bar water pressure and chemicals finishes off the thinned walls. The filter turns into a “sieve”.

Result at CSDD: the optical CPC particle counter immediately records over 1 000 000 particles/cm³ (grade “2” — not allowed on the road).

The BlueChip solution: engine pre-check + SiC cartridge

1. Overfuelling protection: A DPF never clogs for no reason. An avalanche of soot comes from leaking injectors, a stuck EGR or low boost. Before fitting, we scan the engine and remove the cause of the diesel overfuelling.

2. SiC monolith (2 700°C): We open the canister along the factory seam and weld in a monolithic European silicon carbide cartridge. It withstands extreme regeneration temperatures and traps 99.8% of particles.

3. Result at CSDD: 15 000 – 35 000 particles/cm³ (30 times cleaner than the limit!). Guaranteed pass on the first attempt.

CSDD 2026 inspection limits: solid particle measurements (CPC counter)
Condition of the car Solid particles / cm³ CSDD inspection result
Cut-out DPF (empty canister or a bad DPF OFF map) 3 000 000 – 8 000 000 ❌ 2 points (failed, not allowed)
Washed old cordierite (cells destroyed by water pressure) 1 200 000 – 2 500 000 ❌ 2 points (limit exceeded)
Car with a BlueChip SiC cartridge (+ Stock Restore) 15 000 – 35 000 ✅ 0 points (30 times cleaner than the limit!)
Step by step: the job in our bay at Latgales 144
01
Pre-check of injectors and boost
We connect a scanner and log injector corrections (mg/str), boost pressure and EGR valve operation. We fix the cause of fuel overfuelling.
02
Removing the canister on the lift
We carefully remove the DPF body without snapping studs, keeping the threads of the exhaust temperature sensors and the differential pressure pipes intact.
03
SiC welded in along the factory seam
We open the body along the factory edge, remove the collapsed cordierite, fit the new European SiC cartridge and argon-weld it with seam inspection.
04
Stock Restore (KESS V3) and adaptation
We flash the factory stock ECU file matched to the unit number, calibrate the back-pressure sensors, enable the factory regeneration logic and reset the ash counter to 0.
Insight from the workbench · Master Nick M

“In 8 out of 10 cases, drivers come to our bay at Latgales 144 after a failed “80-euro wash”. Two or three weeks later the dashboard is a Christmas tree of errors again, and at the inspection the counter shows one and a half million particles. If the ceramic has crumbled, there is nothing to wash. We open the canister, weld in a European silicon carbide monolith and restore the stock software in the ECU. The car breathes like new again, and the CSDD inspector sees a perfect 20 000 particles.”
